The canvas was first primed several times with chalk primer and varnished with shellac. The fact that the support material is flexible resulted in fine hairline cracks and craquelure, which was not intended at first but turned out to be enriching at second glance. This gives the picture a natural liveliness, it comes alive.

The individual leaves of the square silver sheets stand out. The silver leaf is artificially oxidized and then glazed white.
